Second edition of Saica Group's H&S Award
Ana María Valera, employee at Saica Pack El Prat (Barcelona), has won the second edition of Saica Group Health & Safety Award that has been awarded last April 30 at the company’s Corporate Building in Zaragoza. This award is a recognition of the best practices in health and safety within the Company. Coinciding with the celebration, last 28th April, of the World’s Day for Health and Safety at the Workplace, the jury has also awarded employees in Saica Natur Andalucía, Saica Paper El Burgo de Ebro, Saica Pack Hartlepool and Saica Flex Enniskillen with respective honourable mentions.
The jury has remarked on the winner’s exemplary engagement to health and safety, permanently promoting amongst her colleagues the continuous improvement of the safety conditions in the workplace. The Group’s President, Ramón Alejandro, has awarded her with a €5,000 cheque, that, according to the rules of the competition, Ana María Valera has decided to donate to Care International.
The honourable mentions, worth €2,500, have been awarded to:
- David Morales in Saica Natur Andalucía, for his concern in the search for solutions to the risks caused by hot environmental conditions. The prize will be donated to the Red Cross.
- The initiative ‘Safety First’, by Saica Paper El Burgo de Ebro team, for creating a visible active leadership movement, structured in 13 points, able to move the whole organization towards an effective safety culture, proving in every situation that safety in Saica is always first. The prize will be donated to Unicef.
- Andrew Greathead, in Saica Pack Hartlepool, for his exemplary dedication and leadership in the implementation of key processes to improve safety in the plant such as machine consignation, 5s or change management. The prize will be donated to World Wildlife Fund.
- Kyle Tylor, in Saica Flex Enniskillen, for his idea of including information about response to emergencies on the reverse of our employees’ cards, in order to get quick and efficient communication in this kind of situations. The prize will be donated to Save the Children.
In this edition finalist prizes have also been awarded to Mohammed Ziani (Saica Natur Centro Madrid); Silvia Chávez, Iban González and Alejandra Martínez (Saica Natur País Vasco); Sergio Ballesteros (Saica Paper Zaragoza); Jean-Marc Bodier (Saica Paper Champblain); Jacky Delpuech (Saica Pack Doullens); Heather Gibbons, Elena Nica and El-my Wilds (Saica Flex Wigan); Mark Johnson (Saica Flex Wigan); and John Dawkins (Saica Flex Buxton). All of them have received a diploma.
The ceremony, presented by the group’s H&S Director, Óscar Per, has been opened by the company’s Managing Director, Enrique de Yraolagoitia, who has congratulated those awarded and has referred to the campaign ‘It’s about me’, launched this year: “I encourage you to apply the 12 principles for a safe behaviour included in this campaign in your day-to-day, because they save lives”.
After having recognized the achievements of the winners, Saica Group’s President, Ramón Alejandro, has emphasized that every achievement in the company, along its 81 years, has “a previous condition: the health and safety of every employee. You are our dearest value and Saica would not be what it is today without you”, he said. The president has remarked that these recognitions are an example and an incentive to everybody in the company, and has encouraged all to participate in the next edition of Saica Group’s Health & Safety Award.
